Questions for Chapter 10 refer to the “Are You Addicted” section in your workbook (13th ed) or at the end of the chapter (12th ed). This type of questionnaire can not only help you assess yourself, but can also help you recognize addictive characteristics in other that might need help. Answer the following questions in complete paragraphs. Remember, complete paragraphs have at least three sentences, and consist of a comprehensive thought/ideas.
1. Which of the types of addictions in the survey are you at most risk with your behaviors? What type seems to be the most dangerous to others in college?
2. From the lecture and textbook, what is your opinion of addictions being a part of a biopsychosocial model? Do you feel there is one factor (biological, environmental, etc) that has more influence on addiction than others?
3. What is the difference between a codependent and an enabler? Why do you think there is a tendency for individuals within the field of health and wellness to have characteristics that can lead to these situations? What happens to an addict when that individual has a sound family/friend environment that includes enablers and codependents?
4. What is your opinion of people who are addicts? Be honest with yourself. What thoughts come to mind when you think of individuals who are living with the negative consequences of addiction? Do you blame them, pity them, have a need to help them? Write a paragraph on your views of addiction.
