Information about culture topic: Components of culture to consider could include how the people like to spend their leisure time; art; music; values and attitudes; ethics (including their work ethic); sports or other skills in which they tend to excel; the kinds of food they prefer; family life; certain customs, traditions, taboos or superstitions; topics to avoid talking about vs. best topics for visitors to discuss. There is also the level of crime and corruption to consider. Other important issues would be how religion affects their daily lives; communication style – verbal and non-verbal; interpretation of colors and symbols; gender issues; business and social etiquette; prevalent business organizational structures; social or class structures; special or unusual holidays or vacation seasons that are observed; and their attitude toward Americans. How the people dress and why; whether they are generally laid-back and casual, excitable and argumentative, or reserved and formal, are other areas you may enjoy exploring.
