The writing project takes the Aristotelian principles of dramatic storytelling and applies them to two separate genres, fiction and non-fiction. Employing the classic, “three-act” structure,

students will write two one-page narratives: one based upon true events, one fictionalized. The point of this assignment is to prove that, regardless of genre or medium, the age-old elements of

effective storytelling—structure, tone, theme, and most of all, character—remain constant. Please mark your writing with elements of storytelling structure in the margins and a step diagram.
