Psychologists define personality as “an individual’s enduring characteristics that shape attitudes, emotions, and behavior.” Personality development can be viewed from biological, environmental, and sociological perspectives.
For this Discussion, you examine different theories that explain how personality develops. You also determine which theory best explains how individuals become the people they are.
To prepare for this Discussion:
•Review Chapter 12, “Personality,” in your course text. Focus on the section entitled “The Whole Human: Personality Theories,” which gives an overview of the four primary theories of personality.
•In Chapter 12, review the section entitled “Personality Theories—Overview and Comparison” for a more detailed description of each personality theory.
•Select the personality theory described in Chapter 12 that you believe is best suited to understanding personality development: trait, psychoanalytic, humanistic, behaviorist (social learning).
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 2 a 1- to 2-paragraph response to the Discussion Spark. Important Note: The Discussion Spark and the weekly Discussion topic below will be graded together. You will see one score in your My Grades area.
Post by Day 4 a brief description of the personality theory you selected. Then, describe three aspects of that theory that make it the most appropriate for analyzing personality development. How well could this theory be used to describe your own personality development? Justify your response.
