Review the 2012 National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) designed by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The NCVS survey is approximately ten pages long. This survey is designed to collect crime victimization information that is not captured via the official police report process. It addresses the hidden victims of crime. Familiarity with this survey’s design will assist you in a skill based survey design activity.
Draft a revised NCVS Survey Questionnaire that is two pages in length based on the requirements provided below:
Obtain demographic information from the survey respondent.
Include information on gender, age, race, education, and income.
Include information on marital status and residence type (apartment, single-family home, multi-family home, other).
Obtain information on crime victimization.
Include questions addressing the Part I Crimes (Homicide, Rape, Robbery, Burglary, Larceny, Aggravated Assault, Vehicle Theft, and Arson).
Include questions addressing weapon type.
Include questions addressing victimization site (home, alley, school, parking lot, etc.).
Administer the survey to three (3) individuals.
Type up the survey responses utilizing the Survey Response Table.
Draft a paragraph summary of what you learned about surveying a population.
Did certain questions cause a level of discomfort in the survey respondents?
Were there questions that people refused to answer? Why do you think this occurred?
If you could change something about your survey, what would it be?
