EVALUATION

The following rubric indicates those areas you should be focusing on in preparing your assignment, and how the instructor will weigh these components relative to one another.

Try to zero in on exactly what the DQ is asking for

Outside of your text books, use sources no older than 7-8 years, unless it’s a seminal publication like Freud’s original work or something. This is important because the research literature is of course constantly updated. In the case of medications literature, for example, information can become outdated in as little as 6 months! So you always want to make certain you are using very current information

–        For sources, we prefer published journal articles to websites since a website (unless it’s an official government/agency website or something) may be outdated or managed by a webmaster with insufficient credentials to be able to comment

CriteriaPoints
Met Assignment Requirements (20%)/20
Slide Quality (20%)/20
Originality, Creativity (20%)/20
Handling of Questions and Critical Responses (20%)/20
Audio Delivery – Sound Quality/Narration (20%)/20

–        You do need to mention in your DQ post where you got your information from, e.g., “According to Melchert, in chapter 5, …” You can post a link, if you like, but please make sure it is hyperlinked so people can click on it. (Instructions for how to do this in Course Bulletins, under Presentation)

Critical Thinking, Synthesis, and Reflection

  • Ensure your posts take the discussion to a deeper level, contributing new perspectives or examples, asking probing questions, and stimulating reflection and graduate level conversation
  • Read what has already been posted (or, if starting the discussion, avoid regurgitating course readings and, instead, build on the readings by offering your insights, reflections, critique, concerns, or unique perspective)
  • Demonstrate respect for differences in opinion; debate and critical reflection is encouraged but it must remain respectful
  • Although encouragement and support for each other is appreciated, contributions must go beyond “cheerleading” to add something of substance to the discussion

Quality of Writing

  • Ensure “fat free” writing – APA style is not expected. Rather, focus on writing in a clear, intelligent, and professional manner
  • Avoid mini-essays compiled in isolation; discussions are intended to be interactive
  • Avoid colloquialisms and texting-style shorthand – professional grammar, spelling, and style is expected
  • Provide clear and accurate citations and/or links to external references where necessary – again, APA format is not expected, but you do have to give clear credit for other peoples’ work.
  • Clearly indicate and cite all direct quotations (plagiarism will result in a “Zero”)
