Using Metrics to Develop a Security Scorecard

Paper details:

This Application is based on the following case study and references the optional article “Using Metrics as Tools of Persuasion With Your CIO.” In this case, the security manager provides IT managers with a quarterly scorecard. This scorecard shows how effective the security team is by presenting clear and concise metrics. Some examples that are given include viruses, IDSs, and patch management metrics. These motivate the security team to work toward a goal and show management that it is doing a good job.

Submit a 2- to 3-page document that contains responses to the following questions:

List at least three security metrics you would use to show that security is effective to business management. Be specific and explain what would determine each metric and why it was chosen.
What do the security metrics you have chosen say about your security strategy? How do they show that security is aligned with the business function?
Explain how you would present these metrics to business managers. What graphs and charts would you use? How detailed would you get?
