Respond to one of the following topics in a well developed paragraph. Write your own words.
1. Talk to an older adult (i.e. parents or grandparents) about their memories of growing up Mexican American/Chicano 30 or more years ago. Ask them to share their experiences of discrimination with you, and share this history with your classmates. Or, ask older female family members or acquaintances about their experiences of discrimination before the women’s liberation movement. Questions you can ask can include different expectations of their group, obstacles in education or employment, etc.
2. Describe the origins of the modern civil rights movement. How did activists appeal to the courts and rely on mass protest to end racial segregation in America?
