Neoclassicism was driven by the fascination in classical antiquity, this style incorporated the subjects and styles of Greek and Roman Art. The excavation and findings of Italian “art treasures” (323) was a catalyst to rise of Neoclassicism and the study of the ancient time. Using an oil on canvas medium, Neoclassical enthusiast Jacques-Louis David created Oath of the Horatii. Basing his subject matter off of Roman history, he tells a story about “patriotism and sacrifice”.(325) He recreates the Roman style, by making the figures pose in a statuesque manner, all standing near the foreground emulating an “ancient relief sculpture.” (325).
Most commonly associated with interior design, the characteristics the define Rocco art are elaborate ornamentation, pastel colors, curved lines, and asymmetrical values. Found in the Hotel de Soubise in Paris, Salon de la Princesse caught is perfect example of Rocco style room. The room’s walls are painted a pastel pink. The domed ceiling is painted a pastel blue, creating contrast and depth. The illuminated gold tendrils are strategically placed throughout the room framing each door, panel, and curve. Beautiful ornaments, including a magnificent chandelier, are placed around the room giving it charm and elegance.

1. During the 18th century, Neoclasssicism was a large art movement in the late 18th century. The point of Neoclassicism is mainly to revive old and classical art, but not just of being paintings or sculptures. For example, it would bring back literature and architecture. (323) The excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum caused inspiration to artists after looking around at the ruins and objects in the surrounding area. Paintings were brought to life also inspired by classical art and the discovery of these sites.
2. The term Rococo came from the French word rocaille which meant “pebble.” This was mainly a reference to the little shells and stones used for the decorations of grotto interiors. Physical shells or resemblance of shells were part of Rococo ornamentation. An example of Rococo intereior design is the Salon De La Princesse which was located in Paris at the Hôtel de Soubise. This room is said that the designer intended for this place to be permanent for festivals. This room is also a combination of Boroque style including it’s several curves, shapes and irregular painted shapes. This room also included rocaille shells, sculptures above the door and part of the curved ceiling. (314-315) Rococo style can also include pastel colors and softness such as the painting The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. (316)

A DNA microarray is a collection of small DNA spots attached to a solid surface and is used for genotyping and gene expression studies. Microarray allows monitoring the expression levels of tens of thousands of genes simultaneously. There are various tools used for microarray data analysis and since microarray data sets are extremely large, it is useful to reduce the dataset in groups distinguished by classes. One of the common methods for in depth microarray data analysis is clustering. Clustering simply classifies data into groups of genes with similar patterns that are characteristic to the group. I am assuming that because no two genomes are going to be identical, so to make any interpretation, we need to group (cluster) genomes with others which share some similarity.
Now measurements on microarrays may sometimes be systematically biased by diverse effects (such as efficiency of RNA extraction, label incorporation, exposure, scaling, etc.) that can affect the measured gene expression levels. There also may be systematic effects due to characteristics of the array (such as effects of using different probes, spotting effects, region effects, etc.). To compensate for such effects, an essential procedure in the analysis of DNA microarrays called normalization is applied that can minimize the systematic variations in the measured gene expression levels. There are several methods used for normalization (which i won’t discuss, because it is too technical for me). Usually one of these methods is used for normalization and the others are used to validate the result for optimal results.
Today, microarray technology are generally used in clinical diagnostic tests for some diseases as well as to determine which drugs might be best prescribed for a particular patient (pharmacogenomics). It is also one of the most recent advances being used for cancer research.
