You must refer specifically to the book (demonstrating that you have read it), citing page numbers. Do not use outside (e.g. internet sources) and do not consult with other students.
Answer the following in 500 words or less:
a) Briefly, how is mode of production defined in the book?
b) Briefly, how do Huberman and Sweezy define means of production? Give any example of private ownership of the means of production.
c) Briefly, how do Huberman and Sweezy define social ownership?
d) The authors argue that the capitalist system is inefficient, wasteful, irrational and unjust. “In capitalist society, things are cooperatively operated and made, but not cooperatively owned by those who made them.  Those who use the machinery do not own it, and those who own it do not use it” (Huberman & Sweezy, 1968: 50). The remedy, argue the authors, is to link socialization of production with the social ownership of the means of production. Explain what this means.
